Chicago Road Trip: Day 1 - Elk Hunting in the Grand Canyon

Hi Everyone!

Well we made it through the first leg.  Ok there was no Elk hunting, but we were advised to keep a look out for Elk as we drove into Williams, Arizona.  It was a late start, since we did not leave Orange County until about 1:30 pm.  Gabe had an exit interview with Valeant today and it took a bit longer than anticipated.  And then, we went and with some good people (Connie, Pam from Legal and Jeff) of Valeant as a Bon Voyage.

As we started to head out North and East we looked on the weather.com website to see how the conditions were in Utah and good thing we did as there were some caution advisories for that area.  So, we went to Plan B:  Take the Arizona/New Mexico route to the I-25 and head up north by passing the caution areas.

The alternate route is actually working out well because we would have never been able to see the Grand Canyon.  Tomorrow morning when Sara wakes up for her birthday, there will be snow outside the window and the drive to the awesome wonder of the Grand Canyon will only be minutes away from here.  We are slightly off our course by only around an hour, but worth the deviation.

Since we had such a late start and got stuck in some traffic heading up the I-15 in Fontana (the traffic was a result of people heading to Big Bear and Wrightwood off the I-215), we were not able to take many pictures.  But we did attach the ones we were able to take before the sun went down.

The temperature in this area is not too bad, during the day it was in the 50's and by evening when we drove in it was in the 30's.  Sara has only had to put on one jacket at this point, but I am sure that will change in the next day or so.
